1960 SGS 250

Post by Bob young » Mon Aug 24, 2020 1:44 pm

Hi, I have just joined this forum as I thought it might be helpful. About 3 years ago I purchased a 1960, 250 SGS, the motorcycle had been left under a tarpaulin since last taxed in 1974 and has suffered from an amount of corrosion however I fully intend to restore it back to its original condition. Although the bike is complete and with a battery and a thimble full of petrol it started and ran, there will no doubt be a few items that I will require.
Can anybody help with places to obtain used parts, one thing I will need is a rear light complete so if anyone has one please contact me.
Regards
Bob

Hi Bob. I have a probably similar bike which I restored some time ago and continue to use today. You can see the story of my restoration here http://www.nortonfastback.com/puch/foru ... ?f=3&t=488

I am a little wary of the way your bike has started because mine did the same but try putting your hand over the carb intake when running. If it carries on running, your crank seals are shot and if untouched since the 70s, it would be surprising if they weren't.
Your English usage sounds a bit like mine so I suspect you are UK based too. Perhaps you could tell us where you live?

Cheers.................Chris

Oh, by the way, you can get a rear lamp new from Austria through a company called RBO. Search "RBO Puch" and you will go to the site which is in German. Search under part number 253.5500.0.CR to see your part.
