gasoline

Post by djmik » Sat Aug 22, 2020 2:28 pm

What type of gas do most folks use in their 175 or 250?

I know that the manual states it is not advisable to use gas with ethel , most all gas station have about 10% in it.

My closest gas station with pure gas is about 30 miles away??

My closest gas station with 'regular' gas is about 15 miles away...time to get a 5-gallon gas can and take a trip, I would think...but don't forget, you've got to add oil to it, too - do you have a Ratio-Rite...? $8...

It is indispensable for making sure you have the right fuel/oil mix. Don't forget, the Puch 250/175 is essentially a big 2-stroke - like a weed wacker, with wheels (sounds about the same too! :)

thanks Dr. Frank...

I picked up a 1965 puch 175 barn find several weeks ago....going to be my winter stay in the basement project.

while just tinkering with it, doing the spark test, I did get spark !!! The gas tank is clean, but did clean it with rust restore...looks nice.

waiting on some parts from Matt.

Looking for a rear fender, seen one on ebay but for a 1966........hope it fits???

djmik - I believe that "Ethyl" gasoline back in the old days meant "leaded" gasoline. I usually put in regular pump gasoline; the 87 octane with no ethanol kind if I can find it. Otherwise, I have put in the 10% ethanol fuel in a pinch and the bike runs fine on that. I just really try to use up that tank as quickly as possible to avoid letting that sit in the tank and carb for too long.

By the way, that was a nice find! I hope you can bring it back to life!

Great news! I'm glad that you got it running!

Regarding the clutch: yes, if it's being sitting for a long time there is a good chance that the clutch plates are stuck together or the clutch adjustment is incorrect (or both). Hopefully, you can get them freed up.
