Alternative exhaust options? Jawa?

Post by tinweasel » Tue Jun 25, 2019 10:51 pm

Pardon my ignorance on this one... but, has anyone ever had any success with alternative exhaust silencer options, such as those from a Jawa 250 for example, or does the twingle arrangement render the stock Puch exhaust the only viable option? Hope I didn’t go way out on a limb with that question. I am new to 2-strokes, so be gentle.

Member egr88 would probably be the person to ask. He's posted up some of his exhaust hydro-forming experiments. MIA this year though, but search away.

There are usually a couple of sets listed on eBay.

I saw these online. Listed as a 28mm inlet, unfortunately I think that’s the same as the headers, so it would be a female-female connection. Too bad, they would look pretty nice after some fiddling to mount them.

I wonder if you could fit a section of pipe in header/silencer to join them?

Hmmm.... interesting. That coupler looks up to the task too. They sure look nice.

I don't have any first hand experience with these but RBO in Austria has a "Burgess" type silencer available for most models. Instead of the internal baffle plate structure, these have a perforated tube that can be repacked like a modern performance silencer. The only catch is that I think new downpipes are needed for these (also available from RBO).

I agree that member egr88 would have the best insight on this subject but I haven't seen any posts from him for a while.

Working on my original mufflers. What a dirty job. Hope to be able to re-chrome the mufflers. Just blasting to clean the baffles.

Love your videos adventurepilot, thank you for sharing them with the masses. Takes a lot of the mystery and intimidation out of these little engines for a hack like myself.

Unfortunatley, this is the only exhaust pipe that came with this project. A little on the stale side...
