oil drain plugs

Post by djmik » Sat Nov 14, 2020 9:33 pm

A bit confused.

I have a 1967 Puch 250

I know that there are 3 drain plugs:

1). one in the center under the clutch case.

2). one toward the rear of that for the gearbox.

3). one in the front (right) for the crankcase.

I know the first two are to drain the oil.

explain the crankcase plug ( the front one)...I did drain it and only got about 10 drops of , looks like ( smells like) the 2 stroke oil from the tank oil?

Is this right and how often does it need to be drained ( if at all)? david

Front drain plug is for crank case only. The fuel air mixture moves through the crank case and in some rare and extreme cases you may need to drain excess fuel and oil out of the crank case. Like if you forget to turn off the fuel it could fill the crank case with fuel and you would need to drain it.

Thanks Draco63

I kinda thought so, but all good to get more advice just to be sure!!!

Kinda like trying to start the bike and over FLOODING the engine, then it may be time to drain the crankcase.

thanks
